*Formally known as "The Lucas Marelli Fall Tour*, members & guests of the Alpha-Romeo Club hosted a 1st class gathering, hill country drive & a catered winery lunch. Hosts & organizers Dean & Elizabeth graciously opened their Hudson Bend home to 20 +cars & many participants from as far away as.....Spain !! A very nice breakfast buffet was generously provided by Peter van Kooij, who also is an organizer of The Rolling Sculpture Car Show in November.
*Alpha-Romeo, Porsche, Corvette,Triumph, Fiat, Ferrari, BMW, RXs (2 !!) + other rare & exotic cars went on the drive. My personal favorite was the retro 1950's James Dean Porsche speedster in mirror finish metallic maroon. Excellent maps, the scenic drive & tour lead were also by Dean & Elizabeth.
*The route began @10am from Hudson Bend, through Lakeway, Bee Creek Rd., Briar Cliff, Paleface Ranch Rd., 2147, 281, 71, Llano, 16, Willow City Loop, Cypress Mill, Hamilton Pool Rd., & arriving 1:30pm @West Cave Cellars winery. 170 miles +- with one stop & great weather on all the best roads in 3-1/2 hours.
*Lunch was specially catered for this group & included a pit-roasted pig with the trimmings & an open wine bar. Everything was very good & totally pleasant under the giant oak trees. A few rogue drivers opted for Fuddruckers on 71 for burgers & giant screens for the Texas vs. #8 Baylor game. A very long & stressful 1 point Longhorn win in the last 2 seconds contributed to some high bar bills.
*It was one of the best drives ever,...going again next fall. Thanks to Dean, Elizabeth, & all the members/guests of the Alpha-Romeo Club. And,....to Charlie Strong for pulling a real upset. It was a great fall Saturday !!

Sun.Oct.16/2016 *ROUND ROCK CAR SHOW* Lunch-Drive.
Posted by TopDown on 2016/10/16 8:50:00 (370 reads)

Monthly & weekly recurring event participation that goes well is worth commentary:
*Cool morning, warm afternoon, shade trees & plenty of parking made for a much more relaxed event. About 75 ++ diverse cars leisurely gathered from 9:30-11am. Best showing was a red '32 Ford roadster (complete w/fenders, running boards, bumpers, convertible top & Chevy V8) and a restored all silver '57 Corvette Special Edition..
*New club members Scott & Dawn* with their clean newly acquired RX-8 & my '89 cnvert represented the Mazda Rotory. Some invited piston-powered friends were invited to join us for lunch & a drive. The nubies*(were) volunteered to lead & navigate from a prepared map.
*11:30am: We drove Sam Bass Rd. to Leander, Nameless Rd. & Smoky Jo's BBQ for lunch (never been, good brisket !!). Continuing onto 1431, Lime Creek Rd., 2222, 360 & home. Pleasant group, winding roads, good pace, just right for a Sunday. Thanks Scott, Dawn & company.

*Cool, clear weather brought out the cars & crowds more than usual. By 8:30am it was crowded, but there's always corner spots in the far right side lot.
*This month there was no drive after, but better as more than the usual few RXs showed: My '89 vert, a very clean '88 vert, a '95 coupe & two RX8's. We lined up in our little Mazda Rotary corner of the world, drawing interest & approval to almost 1pm.
*Nov. should get us more good weather for show, lunch & a short drive. NEXT SHOW IS ROUND ROCK-Sun.Oct.16; see Upcoming Events for events.

Sat.Oct.8/2016 *G21 TOUR* From Taylor.
Posted by TopDown on 2016/10/11 4:20:00 (288 reads)

*Taylor City Hall lot-10am:
A 50's Chevrolet resto-mod pickup, a 70's Pontiac, Plymouth Prowler, 70's Barracuda, 2 Corvettes & my RX7 convertible met under perfect weather on a very busy events weekend. $20. ea was donated to the local Catholic Girls School.
*The circular route took us to Thrall, Thorndale/Uptown Café, Rockdale/Apache Pass Steak House, Buckholts Oak Club, Granger/Cotton Club & Taylor/Texas Beer Co. We ate & drank along the way. Each of 5 restaurants voted a favorite car & presented a trophy. Two for the Barracuda, one for the Chevy pick up, a Corvette, and ........one for my RX7 !!
*The Grand Drawing Prize was a large bucket of Eagle brand car care products. Lucky me again !!
*This was a unique event that took us to four amazing, out-of-the-way & historic country road houses,....a fun first visit for most of us. Thanks to Robert Garcia/G21 for organizing a very different & enjoyable drive.

Sun.Sept.11/16*Oasis Cars/Coffee*Lunch*Drive*
Posted by TopDown on 2016/9/13 16:20:00 (310 reads)

*Cooler weather forecasts brought many cars out to the Oasis. An outstanding one was the classic road racing early Porsche w/a hand built & polished aluminum body on a tubular frame. Another was the all red retro '58 Corvette,...all the best lines but sleeker than the original. Lastly was our own Tom Prager's classic maroon Jaguar coupe which drew a lot of attention. Tony Merrick (V8 Miata) & I (RX7 cnvrt.) parked with him & even had some shade into a warmer 11:30am when we left.
*A Lexus V8 coupe & 2 sedans, Mustang GT, RX7 3rd gen. & my '89 RX7 met @Rudy's/620 for lunch. Rudy's is always Rudy's, close by w/good parking & something on the menu for everybody..
*The route for 6 cars was simple Sunday, led @a brisk but safe pace by Berny Schiff in his Lexus coupe w/readable maps & radio contact 1st & last car . We drove Lime Creek. 1431, Cow Creek, 1174, 1431 & Lime creek back to home. All together, no one lost, low traffic & good scenery.
* Let's do it again next 2nd Sunday Oasis. Meet/greet/eat/drive. Join us !! RSVP ME IF COMING.
