*A moderate turnout, all RXs, new faces & 1 boat waiting for us @The Pier, showed for this Sunday drive w/pleasant weather. Lime Creek, 1431, Nameless Rd, Leander & Smithwick to Point Venture Marina/The Pier floating restaurant-fun roads. All the food orders were very good; the lake view & cool breezes nice.
*Mike Walsh drove his boat over to meet us for lunch & a grand tour on Lake Travis afterwards. Thanks Mike !! Pics to the Forum ??

*As we have been sharing activities with other clubs, Charlie Cluck, VP of Event Planning for Capital Z of Texas has come up with some very good drives. This last Saturday's Wine Tour was one of the best so far. 12 of the faithful showed up in 8 cars: RX's, Z's, a Mazda 3 & one BMW.
Charlie pre-drives all roads & stops to be sure all is well & max. fun for all without getting lost.
*Nice back roads & 1431 led us to Flat Creek Winery near Travis Peak, the biggest & best of the 3. Many samples led to favorites for purchase.
I bought a Sparkling Almond, & an Orange Muscat; desert wines for my sweet tooth.
*On to Marble Falls & back by more scenic lanes to Stone House Vineyards in Spicewood & more tasting. It really is a large limestone structure with 14" thick walls. A short hop to world famous Opie's BBQ was a welcome lunch stop. Very good, especially the baked beans & blackbery cobbler w/ice cream.
*After more country lanes to the Woodlake/Wimberley area, we reached The First Texas Olive Oil Co., Orchard & Press and Bella Vista Cellars for the last stop. Many, many flavors of olive oil & more wine tastings. I got a bottle of Home Grown Blue Cheese Stuffed Olives & another of Kalamata's.
*Survivor's stopped in Wimberley for a cold one & a pause before home. I brought up the rear on this one; like a day off from leading the drive. Thanks again Charlie !! Great drive !! Pics to the Forum ??

*Skies were overcast early, but soon cleared to very pleasant & windy weather w/no rain. A modest 7 cars-1 Z, 2 RXs, 1 Corvette, 1 Saturn Sky, & 2 Miatas w/10 people, unafraid of a few clouds, turned out for this joint event. Charlie Cluck (Z) led us from 969E to Elgin by FM1704. From there the roads almost to Taylor, Lexington & back to Elgin were absolutely scenic, winding & great fun to drive. Who knew all this was there so close east of Austin ?? Thanks Charlie !!
*Back in Elgin, 1st timers to Meyer's Smoke Haus found it's reputation
as the very best BBQ around was no brag. After lunch, more back roads took us to Cindy's Gone Hog Wild road house for a few on the breezy deck under the fan driven misters. Some new talent behind the bar was an added bonus, that is, if you care about how pleasantly your cold ones arrive. After a leisurely visit, ....home by 71E to all points.
*More of your input & participation is needed to justify the effort & time in planning & leading activities. Please forward ideas for events you will attend, help plan or lead. (LarryDavidson@PeoplePc.com).

*Our group of dedicated vintage aircraft fans gathered under overcast skies. Mike Walsh "volunteered" to lead RX7 & 8's, Miata's, Saturn Sky & others thru the Bluebonnet Trail: Lime Creek, 1431, Park Rd.4, the Devil's Backbone to the Burnet Airport. The pace was brisk but pleasant thru the bluebonnets along the way. Thanks Mike.
*The air show featured the Tora, Tora, Tora bombers chased by P-40's, Hellcats & Bearcats. A Mig-17, DC-3, & various other classic aircraft flew. The U.S.A.F. A-10 ("Warthog"-tank/ground attack fighter-bomber) Demonstration Team was the main attraction w/a great show. Several amazing areobatic flights filled in the program.
*Weather was a surprise. Forecast for mid 70's, it actually got cold, windy & rained for 45 seconds. Texas weather.
*The long anticipated Bertram Smoke Haus was ........#!*%?+^$??closed. Local rumor was, they branched out from the best BBQ ever to add big-time live music, & had an oooooops !! in the cash flow from high expenses. Sad.
Plan B was the "Hungry Moose"-good pizza, & OPEN !! Then home; nice trip. Pic's to the Forum ??

*In the spirit of one of two mthly events being a short but scenic drive & an open/shared event, this trip drew 11 cars & 14 people. A great mix again: RX7/8s, Zs, Sky, Evo, GTO.
*Weather was cool am but perfect later for the maze of twisting roads from Driftwood, thru Mt.Gainer, amazing Creek Rd. & Fitzhugh to The Nutty Brown. Good thing I pre-drove it; maps have CR#s but the roads use only names for most of this route. A guarantee to get lost, but we were on track; nobody lost or left behind.
*The Nutty Brown patio was very pleasant w/live music & good company. Food was good all around @ reasonable prices; service friendly & prompt. Some of us hung around late into the afternoon.
*Nice day; how lucky we are to live in Austin so close to great back roads. Pics to the Forum ??
