*On another clear warm Sunday, RXs, Cobras, Crossfires, 1 Mustang SCGT & 9 of us met in Bee Cave. Hamilton Pool Rd, Cypress Mill, Old Marble Falls Roads & the back way to Spicewood got us to world famous Opie's BBQ @noon. Yvonne W, new owner of a candy red Cross Fire convertible, still getting the feel of 6 speeds standard, took the job of rear guard/radio operator, never missed a shift & kept the group together when the pace was brisk.
*As always, everything @Opie's was excellent, a/c wonderful & the ice tea flowed with the outside temperature well above 100 degrees by then.
*Part II after lunch was led by Ted & Vicki Schenk, an even more brisk romp through Sycamore & Wallace Branch Creeks, Cypress Mill, Sandy, Johnson City, Henly & Fitz Hugh Rd to their house in late afternoon. They had iced down soft drinks from your childhood-Grapette, Orange Crush, Cream Soda, imported beer that was unaffordable in college, finger food & oldies rock-n-roll. Always a good time @T&V's House. Ted: Sorry no one bought your soon-to-be-replaced bench & chair. Thanks for asking though !!
*Part III for the hard core survivors @7pm was a trip to Tex-Mex Land before heading home. Long day, good company, winding roads, lot's of stories.

*Leave it to Charlie to find a new way to an old favorite destination. Instead of going northwest & east, we went southeast, north & west to historic Walburg. 6 cars & 7 people in RXs, Zs, a GTR & a very spiffy Birkin Roadster (www.KitCarMag.com/RoadTests/77098/Photo_01.html) left on a warm morning becoming a hot day. Several unfamiliar roads passed through some remote, small, very quiet & a few empty rural towns to Elgin, around Taylor, by Granger Lake, Davilla & Schwertner to downtown Walburg.
*What little there is of it is still going with the German Restaurant & Bier Garten as the main attraction. By then, the temp was 100; we were happy enough just w/the cool a/c, uncrowded dining room & good menu. The friendly waitress noted that most of the local lunch customers had the good sense to stay cool @home on a day like this. I guess we tourists are exempt.
*After the usual good food, some split to nearby Salado w/its shops, galleries, Lone Star Playhouse, bed/breakfasts, historic buildings and spring-fed creek running under the old Main Street bridge. Others were home by 3pm easy. Good drive; thanks again Charlie.

*Once a year +-, historic Gruene is always worth a visit. This warm morning a mix of 10 in all RXs, Miatas, MGBs, Zs, Mustangs, Crossfires, G35s & Tito's brand new GTR lined up. 13 of us took a route through Driftwood, Wimberley & Purgatory Rd. to historic Gruene.
*The old town was crowded & a deputy was directing traffic @the main "T" intersection. But as planned, the Gruene River Grill had plenty of parking & no long wait like the usual tourist's choice of The Grist Mill. We slid right in to a large table, friendly service, good food, nice surroundings & a view of the Comal River.
*After lunch, we did an extra loop around the Devil's Backbone before returning through Wimberley, Payton Colony, Henly, Pedernales Falls State Park, & Fitzhugh Rd. to 290W. Only one wrong turn by yours truly. Some split to the grand opening of SCCC Customs for food, drinks, live music & a pretty good car show. Survivors went for an early evening stop at a Mexican restaurant.
*Long day, only 1/2 tank, good times; we missed those who could not be with us.
UPCOMING EVENT:
10am Sat.Aug 14-Charlie w/Z Club has planned some typically new & previously unknown roads to Walburg, the German Restaurant & Bier Garten. See details @the calendar listing over there >>>>>>>>>>

*We met NORTH (yes actually north !!)@9am (zzzzzzzz) to beat the heat & the church crowd to a popular restaurant Sunday morning. Under clear blue skies & moderate tempertures, 8 people, 2 Zs, 2 RXs, 1 Corvette & 1 Mustang followed Charlie's new route to Kingsland. The open, low-traffic North Parmer Lane extension and deserted county roads took us to Andice, Round Mountain & Kingsland by a zig-zag fashion. I don't know how he finds & remembers these often unmarked, always new, back roads.
*The Junction Restaurant (www.Junction-House.com) is a nicely restored victorian-style mansion and a local favorite. The Sunday Buffet had all the best chicken, fish, pasta, soup, salad & home-made desserts your mom or grandmother hopefully fixed for family events. Everyone was very friendly and attentive, the food good and everything pleasant.
*The way home was virgin territory again until a short hop on 71W led us to Angel's Ice House (www.AngelsIceHouse.com) for some live blues music & a few cold ones. Another nice day in the hill country.
*Everyone was home by 3pm or so on less than 1/2 tank; Brilliant !!
Thanks again to Charlie Cluck, the best ever Z Event Planner for the usual unique one-of-kind drive.

*Another mild & sunny day for us again. 8 cars & 12 people showed in the usual mix of RXs, Miatas, a Cougar, Z06, & Mustang Cobra. Traffic was light as we drove Lime Creek, 1431W & Nameless Road to the mid-stop in downtown Liberty Hill.
*It warmed up as we left, but no where near the 112+ degrees of last year. The pace picked up to "brisk" on the deserted roads ending @1431 w/nobody lost or left behind. A reserved table was ready @The Pier Restaurant/Point Venture Marina on Lake Travis. It was lake food: Fried pickles, chips, salsa, tacos, burgers, fish & chips- but good. A nice bar, view of the lake w/a cooling breeze; it was the place to be.
*The cat fish had moved dockside, obviously well fed w/more & bigger ones than ever. Some were 3 ft. long & maybe 40 lbs. At HEB's $3.98 per lb. that's a $120. catfish trimmed. Feeding but no fishing is allowed; oh well !! Maybe a midnight canoe trip.
*The other kids & I tossed them baskets of chips & other left overs until the water foamed & splashed with so many big fish you might momentarily imagine walking on them as possible, ...but too scary.
*About 2pm+- we split for home by reversing the 1431/Lime Creek route; home by 3pm+. Just a good old Sunday drive through the hills to the lake. Mark Stein has some pictures for Randall to post on the forum.
